A Valentine's Day ad campaign for Pocky, the Japanese snack that has captured hearts (and bellies) worldwide. I went with characters from Japan's Edo time period (1603 – 1868) to reflect "simple and timeless romance", reminiscing a time of good art where life was not driven by swipes, scrolls, and likes. Pocky's slogan is "Share Happiness", and this couple shares sweet and spicy 😉 moments through a simple Pocky stick.

Some sketches and colour explorations! Initally, I had the idea of more comedic directions such as a traveler smuggling tons of Pocky through border control. Then the idea of Pocky as a hairpin came to mind. It captures the cultural origins of Pocky and the soft power of Japanese pop culture. I was sold!
