The Chronicles of Narnia being underrated in my opinion and one of my all-time favourite children's story, I wanted to illustrate and design a book cover that captures intrigue and revives the story of Peter, Edward, Susan, and Lucy. The first movie was also amazing. Sadly can't say the same for the sequels.
The font TXC Pearl, with its slightly wonky forms, fits the whimsical vibe perfectly, and yet retains some seriousness—perfect for the idea of Narnia in my head. But some flourishes were needed to emphasise the fantastical elements of the book. Here are some explorations for the title treatment.
Here are some very rough sketches just to capture the concept and composition. In the end, I decided it was important to have some nod to the wardrobe (through which it all started). The witch and the lion could be somewhere in the visuals as symbolism, rather than take the focus and consequently visually repeat what the book title already describes. For a kid who hasn't read the book, the Christmas, snowy vibe and Mr. Tumnus would be a point of intrigue.
