The Commonwealth Foundation reached out for an editorial illustration for one of their winning short stories (adda international short story competition) called "The Missing Half", written by Malaysian writer Mohammed Nasser. The story tells of a father's grief after a flood that stopped time.
I was given complete creative freedom for this piece. There were lots of great imagery in the story but I went with the symbolic image of Aina's single shoe sitting between her parents' slippers. Around this shoe, space and time are warped, and the flood is rising, threatening to wash away love, memories, and eventually, even grief.
